Accessibility statement for the Great British Energy website

This accessibility statement applies to https://www.gbe.gov.uk/

This website is run by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • At 200% zoom, some card content is lost
  • Our cookie notice contains toggles that rely on colour
  • Users of Dragon Naturally Speaking may find it difficult to control the HTML video player used on the home page

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

DESNZ is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard. The non-compliances are listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Within the cookie notice, toggles that are set to ‘off’ lack sufficient contrast. Users with low vision often have difficulty perceiving elements that have inadequate contrast. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.11 Non-text Contrast.

We plan to resolve this by: Summer 2025

When zooming text to 200% on most pages some content is cut off. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4 Resize Text.

We plan to resolve this by: December 2025

When using ‘Dragon Naturally Speaking’, on the ‘Homepage’ a user cannot interact with the video controls when the video is playing. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value.

We plan to resolve this by: December 2025

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will carry out on-going internal audit to check the accessibility of this website as well as taking feedback from users.

Any required changes will be planned into our continuous improvement work for this website and added to a backlog and prioritized according to user needs and cost.

This accessibility statement will be updated based on any issues we identify or any changes we make to address any issues raised.
