What we
will do

Great British Energy comes from a simple idea: the British people
should have a right to own and benefit from our natural resources.

These resources belong to all of us and should be harnessed for the common good.

We are a publicly owned energy company. We’ll accelerate the roll-out of clean, secure, home-grown energy and help make Britain a clean
energy superpower. The energy we will produce will give energy retailers the opportunity to provide much more home-grown clean power
to UK homes and businesses.

We will support tens of thousands of good jobs in the clean energy projects we invest in and in their supply chains.

And because we’re owned by the British people for the British people, we’re committed to creating opportunities for people across all four
nations of the UK, shaping a cleaner, more prosperous future for everyone.

Great British Energy is our national energy champion.

Powering Britain with clean energy

Making Britain a clean energy superpower requires bold action. That means bringing government and industry together to drive innovation and rapidly roll-out renewable energy.

That’s where Great British Energy comes in. We’re not just supporting clean energy - we’re building it. From solar projects to floating wind farms, we’ll invest in the next generation of cutting-edge technologies to deliver cheap, clean, secure power to millions of homes.

We are backed with £8.3bn in funding to become a key player in shaping Britain’s energy future.

We’ll work alongside industry experts, landowners, and communities to develop new projects and vital infrastructure. Working with local councils and using publicly-owned land as well as private, we’ll make sure clean energy is built where it’s needed most.

Investing in local communities

Clean energy shouldn’t just power the nation - it should directly benefit local communities.

That’s why we’re launching the Local Power Plan.  Through it, we will work with local communities to empower people to generate their own energy, save money on their energy bills, and reinvest the savings where they are most needed.

We’ll work with local energy groups, councils, and mayors to:

  • fund and support community-led energy projects
  • provide expert guidance on planning and development
  • ensure communities have a direct stake in local energy projects

Our goal is simple: clean, affordable, home-grown energy that benefits everyone.

Creating jobs and strengthening supply chains

Building Britain’s clean energy future means creating thousands of high-quality jobs.

By investing in clean energy supply chains and manufacturing, we’ll help:

  • create thousands of new jobs across the UK’s clean energy industries
  • boost domestic manufacturing and innovation
  • strengthen the UK’s energy independence

We will co-invest alongside our partners, including The Crown Estate and National Wealth Fund.

We’ve chosen Aberdeen, Europe’s energy capital, as our headquarters.

We’ll work hand-in-hand with industry leaders making sure as much of the clean energy supply chain as possible stays right here in the UK - supporting businesses, workers, and the economy.
